Quantum computing thoughts

Last week we learned from dr. Lyon about quantum computing. It is a new type of computer that can process what’s basically dials instead of 1s, and 0s. From what I understand, these “qbits” can also effect each other, wich would both make it incredibly hard to work with, yet incredibly powerful. Scientists estimate a 100 qbit computer would outspeed nearly any modern computer.

scientists have been able to make computers with around 50 qbits from my understanding. This means that quantum computing could very well have real world applications quite soon. One of the downsides of quantum computers is that they basically have to be large to work with the materials we have, so they’re probably not going to be replacing normal computers any time soon.
learning about quantum computing was my favorite thing in this class that week, and dr. Lyons taught it well. I hope it’s an industry that can have practical use in our lives in the future.
